In my latest video, I explored why Darwin's theory of evolution has transformed from a scientific theory into something more akin to a theology.
As someone who spent 20 years exploring different belief systems before finding Christianity, I've noticed some concerning parallels between how evolution is treated and how religious dogma operates.
Our Origin Story Matters
I began by explaining how Darwin's "Origin of Species" functions as an origin story - much like superhero origins in modern media. Just as Batman's origin story explains his motivations and actions, Darwin's theory attempts to explain the origin of all species, including humans.
This matters because changing an origin story fundamentally changes how we view the subject.
Three Key Problems with Evolution
I identified three major issues that make evolution function more like a theology than a scientific theory:
It requires faith in concepts that evidence continues to undermine
Questioning it leads to public outrage and professional consequences
It was specifically crafted to replace the Biblical explanation of origins
The Missing Evidence
One of the most striking problems I discussed is the lack of transitional fossils. If Darwin's theory were correct, we should see countless fossils showing gradual changes between species. Instead, the fossil record shows fully-formed species appearing suddenly.
The Cambrian Explosion is a perfect example - most major animal body types appeared within just 5-10 million years, an incredibly short time in geological terms.
The Fear of Questioning
I shared Richard Dawkins' infamous quote about anyone who questions evolution being "ignorant, stupid, insane or wicked." This kind of rhetoric creates an atmosphere of fear around questioning evolutionary theory.
However, I pointed out that over 1,000 PhD scientists have signed statements expressing doubts about Darwinian evolution, and even the Royal Society has held meetings to address growing problems with the theory.
The Dark Legacy of Social Darwinism
Perhaps most troublingly, I explored how evolutionary theory led to Social Darwinism and its devastating consequences. Key figures like Herbert Spencer, William Graham Sumner, and Ernst Haeckel used evolutionary concepts to justify discrimination, eugenics, and even warfare.
These ideas ultimately influenced Nazi ideology and contributed to World War II.
Modern Implications
I concluded by discussing how evolutionary thinking continues to impact modern issues. If humans are just evolving animals, what's to prevent us from making any changes we want to human nature?
I used the example of transgender ideology and artificial reproduction to show how evolutionary thinking can justify radical alterations to human biology and society.
The Need for Change
The video ends with a call to recognize evolution for what it has become - a theological system that demands faith despite contrary evidence, silences opposition, and promotes anti-human ideas.
As I argued, it's time to challenge this narrative, regardless of the potential backlash.
Personal Reflection
As someone who helps young men build their Christian faith, I believe it's crucial to understand how Darwin's theory has shaped our institutions and thinking. This isn't just about science - it's about how we view ourselves as human beings and our place in the universe.
Final Thoughts
Making this video wasn't about denying all aspects of evolution or promoting blind faith. Instead, I wanted to highlight how what began as a scientific theory has transformed into something more resembling a theological system - one that requires faith, punishes doubters, and fundamentally changes how we view human nature and dignity.
The evidence suggests it's time to critically examine this theory and its implications. Whether Dawkins and others consider me "ignorant, stupid, insane or wicked" for doing so, I believe this conversation is too important to ignore.
